#101MMA: Duel 80 AMP Alternator/Regulator Package for 262's

In this Mod we use all TCM & Mooney Parts and retrofit a duel charging system in a M20K originally only having a single 60 AMP capacity.  This mod results in two simultaneously running (normal operation) or separately (in the emergency mode) 70 AMP alternators and with two independent regulators. The Mod includes all necessary parts such as a split field rocker switch, extra breakers & wiring etc. as required. The second (full size) 70AMP alternator, being belt driven seems to be more reliable and is positioned on the top pilots side of the rear engine providing easy access for ease of maintenance.

Because of the M20K's high reliability on electrical components such as hot props, extensive avionics, and A/P's., etc. for safe IFR flight, we strongly recommend dual alt.'s for maximum "real world" reliability. In practice, because with this mod, both systems run independently & simultaneously, most (single) alt./reg. failures do not disable the aircraft, and thus the flight continues to your destination (and perhaps beyond) problem-free. Considering most M20K alternators are marginal while running at almost 100% capacity, they are prone to early failure. Thus, dual alt's allow each charging system to operate with less of a work load and increase overall reliability dramatically. We view this mod a "must" to increase reliability, re-sale, and pilots piece of mind.
