#113MM/MR: OPTIONAL 31-35 GAL. AUX. FUEL TANKS:
Since most of us measure speed as true point to point or door to door times
when traveling, in the real world, this mod can shave an hour (or more) off most medium and longer cross
country trips by eliminating those time gobbling fuel stops. Just as
importantly, the extra fuel also allows you to
skip over problem weather areas and only land at your destination or at an
airport in good weather. Remember, the old USAF adage; The only time you
can have too much fuel on board is when you are on fire.
This Mod immolates the OEM fuel tanks in that it creates an additional wet wing tank area behind the spar and outboard of the existing tanks which gravity feeds the preexisting tanks. So, in effect, this mod just increases the overall capacity and features separate fillers which allow you to utilize them or chose not to. When installed by itself (w/out Speed Brakes), approx. 35 additional gal. are utilized or some 18 additional gallons per wing. These two additional areas are serviced via two additional fuel caps (one per wing) who's fuel flows directly into the existing stock fuel tanks. In other words, as your engine draws fuel from the main tanks, the Aux tanks replenish them.
This Mod can also be installed with Speed Brakes at a slight additional charge, but doing so decreases the additional Aux fuel tank capacity to approx. 29-30 gallons useable. The ships fuel tanks become essentially one large tank (per wing) with simple gravity feed transfer (via 3/8" line) from the Aux tanks to the nearest main, thus requiring no pilot input.
In short, your stock tanks are increased in size without complex transfer pumps etc. As the average fuel stop takes almost 1 hr., this mod can effectively increase the point to point speed of your Mooney like no other! And, nobody does it better.
