| OEM Overlapping Nose Gear Doors Note: Pilots (left) door overlapps right door making a near airtight seal for considerably less drag and cockpit exhaust noise. |
Overlapping N/Gear Doors Installed Note: Extra overlapping lip on (pilots) left door making it slightly wider allowing it to overlap and seal against right side door when closed. |
#123MM: OEM MOONEY OVERLAPPING NOSE GEAR DOORS:
This is a simple and relatively inexpensive Must do Mod/Up-date for all Mooneys. Amazingly, all M20's
w/out these doors installed have the standard huge gaps existing where the existing (older
style) nose gear doors come together when closed. This is but inches from the open
exhaust pipe! This means that exhaust and wind noise is (in effect) un-impeded as it
then can enter into the (otherwise) non-insulated .20 aluminum nose gear well which is
actually inside the cockpit between the pilots and co-pilots legs.
poorer fitting pre'84 vintage doors once you are aware of this simple and economical FIX!
Quality OEM Mods Aren't An Expense, They Are An Investment
You may also note, like the vast majority of our OEM Factory Style Mods, this mod is listed in The AIRCRAFT BLUEBOOK PRICE DIGEST as adding significantly to re$ale value.
These self-sealing high efficiency, current production OEM nose gear doors effectively help seal out engine/exhaust and airframe noise, while adding approx. 2 mph as a bonus! To re-state this much overlooked design factoid, stock older abutment type N/G doors do not seal in the middle lap joint. Thus, the only thing between the exhaust pipe and outside air stream is the thin .20 un-insulated nose gear well by your feet! In practice, these doors provide a nearly airtight seal so as to help eliminate turbulence and engine noise from entering the cabin from the nose well area.
There is little excuse for not having this popular Mod on your Mooney as it is highly effective and relatively inexpensive, but does require gear re-rigging and an otherwise well maintained nose gear system.
| #123MM: OEM MOONEY 252/ENCORE OVERLAPPING N/GEAR DOORS: (Installed) Note: Price includes an basic allowance to re-rig (a otherwise well maintained) M20 landing gear system but does not include painting the new doors to match existing. |
